Green New Deal Plan - Transportation Reconstruction

Electric cars and electric trucks

Since cars and trucks account for over 60% of oil consumed, it would be critical to make cars and trucks electric, so that they can use renewable sources of energy.

There are projected to be about 280 million cars at the end of 2019 in the United States.

If one third of these were not needed in 20 years, because of the walkable neighborhood construction, then the Federal government would need to encourage the purchase of 200 million electric cars. If it provided $10,000 per car, that would mean $2 trillion over 20 years, or $100 billion per year.

Jobs

About 1 million people now have jobs manufacturing automobiles. If most electric cars were made in the United States, that number could be doubled.
